Article 81 [Conditions for Granting] An offender sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment who has served no less than half of the original sentence or an offender sentenced to life imprisonment who has served no less than thirteen years may be released on parole if they strictly abide by the supervisory rules, submit to education and corrections, show genuine remorse, or shows no risk of recommitting crimes.
The granting of parole may be exempted from the above restrictions on the execution of the sentence with the approval of the Supreme People's Court under special circumstances.
A recidivist or an offender who has been sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of more than ten years or life imprisonment for intentional homicide, rape, robbery, kidnapping, arson, causing an explosion, release of a hazardous substance, or any organized violent crime shall not be released on parole.
